When I turn off all the lights I make sure I have my mobile phone to use its light to guide my way

Isaiah 9:1-21

Reference: v.2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. (NIV Bible)

Explore: In my world of electricity it’s rare that I am in absolute darkness. Even in the dead of night I have my alarm clock glowing beside me.

It’s still dark when I leave the house every morning for work. When I turn off all the lights to leave, I make sure I have my mobile phone on me to use its light to guide my way to the garage door.

The street lights are already shining down my driveway before I turn on the car and our sensor light automatically comes on when I get near. It could be the middle of the night, and yet, I still have access to light.

Application: I feel the same way with my spiritual journey. Growing up in a Christian family I have always known that God is with me. I’ve always had the spiritual light that I can turn to during times of darkness.

Christ is the light for all people. He is there for everyone, even when it feels like the power has gone out.

We often think that when we become a Christian we will never experience times of darkness. This is not true. There are times in our lives that feel extremely dark.

The difference is that we have access to the Light. We no longer have to fear the dark as Christ is there for us and will give us the Light that we need at the time.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being our Light in a dark world. May we always look towards the Light and shine it out to others who are in darkness. Amen.

When have you experienced a time of darkness?
