Explore: We have amazing neighbours. While we look after our property in very different ways, they are always supportive and often come to lend a hand when we are working out in our expansive garden.
You hear some real horror stories of people having to deal with terrible neighbours. Front yards looking like garbage sites, loud parties late at night, screaming matches between family members… It can make your home terrible.
We value our homes and the spaces we have. At their best they are our places of refuge, relaxation and hospitality.
Application: When the Israelites divided the land amongst the tribes they were very clear about the area they were to inhabit. This would have given the people boundaries and security knowing their homeland.
We all need places of refuge and safety. If it’s not our home, then we seek it out in other places.
No matter where we go, God is our refuge. He gives us the comfort we need. Lean into Him and He will surround you with peace and security.
Prayer: Lord, may we work harder at building spiritual security rather than earthly safety that so easily crumbles and falls. Amen.
Where do you feel safest?
