You MUST join in communal singing in the car!
Reference: “They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! ” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!”” John 12:13 NIV
Explore: I grew up in quite a musical family. To show how much our family liked to sing we actually had a rule in our house: No singing at the table.
In comparison to this, however, I feel there was also an unwritten rule: You MUST sing in the car! There was not an extended car trip that didn’t involve belting out a chorus, with harmonies, often a round and Dad tooting the horn in time.
It helped the time go quickly and was one of the few activities we did as a whole family. And it brought our well-known worship songs from church and Christian groups into our travels.
Application: I have always appreciated taking worship music out of the church and into my everyday life. The car is an easy place for this, but I’ve seen people do this at work, while exercising and in their homes.
God is everywhere, so why shouldn’t our worship be too?
When Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, just walking along, a crowd of people who had heard what He did for Lazarus started declaring His glory.
They didn’t wait until Jesus set up to teach and preach. They didn’t wait until Jesus was in a private setting.
They just started declaring His goodness right there on the road.
Let’s not hold back our celebration of Jesus. Let’s bring it into our everyday life so that in everything we do, Jesus’ glory is proclaimed.
Prayer: Oh Lord, You are good. You are worthy of our praise in every breath we take. May we glorify Your name in all we do. Amen.
Where can you add praise for Jesus into your world?
