I love the surprise of not knowing what visual delight will come up next.

Psalm 65:1-13

Reference: The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. (Psalm 65:8 NIV)

Explore: I love watching fireworks. In fact, I love them so much that my husband looked into surprising me with fireworks at our wedding.

I love the colours and the patterns. I love the surprise of not knowing what visual delight will come up next.
What I also love, almost as much as the fireworks themselves, are other people’s responses to the fireworks.

The collective “ooooo” when a firework makes a big bang and then the whole audience’s “ahhhhhh” as the lights explode across the sky.

Half way through a fireworks show I like to look around at the crowd. It brings me such happiness to see everyone with their eyes to the sky and their faces lit up by the colours exploding above them.

Yep, I really love fireworks!

Application: When the psalmist speaks of the world being in awe of God’s wonder I think of a crowd watching a fireworks display. Unfortunately, I think there are times when we are more in awe of some explosions in the sky than we are of the Creator of the sky Himself.

Let’s not make that the case today. May we allow God’s wonder to sink into our hearts in such a way that we marvel at His glory all day long.

Prayer: Lord, while I appreciate fireworks, I love You so much more. You can add wonder to any day and it doesn’t even cost us thousands of dollars! May we open our eyes to Your wonder today. Amen.

What can help you notice God’s wonder?
