Lawless For Lollies

I remember crossing the main road with my sister so we could buy lollies at the service station when we should have been in our back yard playing.

Explore: I wouldn’t consider myself a particularly rebellious child, but I do recall bucking the system at times.
In our house there was a long corridor from the bedrooms down to the living room. I remember sneaking down the corridor, when I should have been in my room, and sitting at the living room door where I could view the TV and watch shows that I wasn’t supposed to see.
I remember being sent to bed but instead I sat super still, without making any noise, on our big wingback chairs so that Mum forgot I was there and didn’t remind me it was past my bed time. I remember crossing the main road with my sister so we could buy lollies at the service station when we should have been in our back yard playing.
As I said before, these actions were not horrific. However, even as a fairly well behaved child, I still had my own selfish desires and times when I decided to go against my parent’s will.
Application: Laws are made because people have done the wrong thing in the past. My parents would never have had to set a bedtime if I went to sleep when I was tired and needed rest.
The laws that our country makes are decided upon for the good of the society, not for the selfish desire of one person. The laws that God gives us are not to condemn us, but lead us to a life of fulfilment and purpose.
I know of many people who see religion as just one long list of ‘Do Nots’. However, God’s laws are to be delighted in, not resisted.
It is when we follow God’s laws that we find a life that has destiny and brings blessing instead of judgement. A life lived according to God’s desires is one that is fruitful and well grounded.
There are times in my life when I have felt unsure and lacking direction, but if I continue to search God’s laws I find purpose and meaning.
Prayer: Lord, forgive our selfish desires as we look to fulfil our own ambitions. Instead, may we focus on Your laws and aim for a life that is heading towards an eternal destination. Amen.
