It’s exciting to see people win, but the elation is even greater when someone breaks a world record.

Isaiah 46:1-13

Reference: v.5 “With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? (TNIV Bible)

Explore: We’ve just had the Olympic Games where athletes all around the world have competed in their sport of excellence. There have been both celebrations and disappointments as men and women have slogged it out in their respective events.

It’s exciting to see people win, but the elation is even greater when someone breaks a world record. Their names go in the history books next to their heroes and the people they have aspired to be like.

The record is theirs and they can take glory in the win… until the next competition when others will strive to take the prize.

Each year records are broken and someone else trumps a great achievement. How fast, how high, how strong can we push ourselves to keep surpassing the world record?

Application: Athletes are always compared to competitors from the past. Those who have reached great heights in their time are held up as examples of which the next generation of champions should be like.

While world records are broken there is still someone to come who will be faster, higher, or stronger. And there are those from our past who have shown just incredible sportsmanship that they will always be put up to aspire towards.

After reading Isaiah 46 I was reminded yet again of how much greater God is to us mere humans. There is no one who can compare to Him.

There is no one in the past who has achieved greater than God, none to whom He should aspire to be like. And never will there be someone who will surpass His majesty.

He was, He is, and He will ever be the greatest deity. None can compare to Him. What an honour it is to know the best so personally and to have Him back us 100% every day.

Prayer: Lord, nothing can compare to Your greatness. May we never forget that You are the best and it is a privilege to be in Your presence. Amen.

What do you need God’s divine power for today?
