They’d try to impress the ladies with their fast car

Psalm 44:1-26

Reference: “We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭44:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: My father had four brothers and a sister.  He and his two younger brothers would get into all sorts of trouble growing up.

My uncle Casper tells a great story about when they would go out driving. They’d try to impress the ladies with their fast car or try to drag off other guys.

Their car, however, was never very fast so they’d all rock backwards and forwards in their seats trying to get it to go faster with their body motion. Not very cool!

They would also try to sneak back into the house when they were late. They’d turn the lights and the motor of the car off and just roll the car down the driveway of their home.

They’d make no noise and creep back into their bedrooms. Just as they lay down silently in their beds, thinking they’d successfully got home late their mum would yell out each of their names! Totally sprung!

Application: I don’t know how many times I heard these stories but we always enjoyed hearing them again.

Stories are very powerful. Through stories we learn about others and, if we are self-reflective, we can learn about ourselves too.

That’s one of the many reasons it’s important to read the Bible. Through its stories we learn of God’s character and actions. And are reminded that the same God is active and involved in our lives too.

Never stop opening the scriptures. They are a wealth of knowledge and help to know who we are and where we are going.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for revealing Yourself through the Bible. May we grow and learn from Your word. Amen.

What have you learned from the Bible lately?
