Today’s Actions, Tomorrow’s Destiny

Our future is often determined by our previous behaviour.
Reference: “But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,” Genesis 49:24 NIV
Explore: We were watching our 2-year old playing outside. There were trucks and trikes and he was moving from one to the other.
After a while we realised he had a method in his movements. He was lining them all up and sorting them in his own special order.
As we marvelled at his clever little mind my husband decided he was going to be in logistics when he grew up. It wouldn’t surprise us as he is often working hard at sorting and moving things around.
Application: Our future is often determined by our previous behaviour. It doesn’t have to be, but it is logical that our strengths and decisions now will influence our future.
When Jacob was blessing his 12 sons in Genesis 49, it seemed that their previous behaviour influenced the blessing of their future. Their character and actions of the past were going to determine what would come in the future.
As we go through life now, making decisions for ourselves, they reveal things about our character, our strengths and our weaknesses. Often these same traits will present themselves in our future too.
Maybe now is a good time to reflect on those influencing factors on your decision making so you can reflect on whether they will help you to make the best decisions in the future.
Prayer: Lord, You have created us all with different strengths and different characters. May we work hard to bring the best out in ourselves to serve You with everything we have. Amen.
Looking at your past behaviour, what can you see for your future?
