Reference: In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: (Philippians 2:5 NIV)
Explore: I don’t live in a bubble. It’s clear to see that the people I associate with rub off on me.
I pick up common phrases said by my friend Krystyne, I pick up an adventurous enthusiasm from my friend Penny, I’ve picked up fashion tips from my friend Lucy, and I’ve learned how to be efficient from my mum, Janet.
All of these people, plus many more, have helped form who I am today. And there is no doubt, that as I continue to meet new people, I will continue to change and develop my ways.
Application: You can’t deny that the people we surround ourselves with rub off on who we are. Look at the people whom you spend life with and you will see little bits of them reflected in your own life too.
In Philippians, the writer reminds us that the best person we can replicate is Christ. In our work, in our relationships, and in our future goals, if we act like Jesus then we are well on the way to living life as God intended us to.
For us to be like Christ, we need to know Him and spend time with Him. That’s one of the reasons it’s so important to read the Bible, contribute to a faith community, pray, have some Christian friends, and to make time to reflect on your faith.
If you want to be like someone you need to know them. How well do you know Christ?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for making Yourself so accessible to us that we can get to know You personally. May we take every opportunity to love, live and forgive just like You. Amen.
